Englewood Festival 2010 set for weekend of Aug. 14-15
The thirty-seventh annual Englewood Festival - 'Artists in the Woods' is set for Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 14 and 15.

Sponsored by the City of Englewood and the Englewood Festival and Arts Commission, the arts and crafts weekend event is held at Centennial Park on Union Boulevard in Englewood. Festival hours are 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

According to festival chair and spokesperson, Linda Bryan, the 2010 event promises to continue the long tradition of festival attractions. Over 100 artists and crafts-people, along with numerous civic displays and food booths are expected for the weekend event.

Mrs. Bryan said that while most of the artists from previous festivals are expected back, there is always an influx of 'first-timers' that adds an element of interest to the festival.

Once again, it is expected that local civic and service groups will be well represented, including Northmont Library, the Englewood YMCA, Sinclair College. Mrs. Bryan said the artists and crafts-people hail from as near as Englewood and Dayton and as far away as Michigan, Kentucky and New Mexico. "Our festival is well known and liked by the arts and crafts community," commented Mrs.Bryan.

From beautifully crafted jewelry, unique furniture, home accessories and glass pieces, to pottery, ceramic art, watercolors and prints, Mrs. Bryan said festival goers they will find a wide variety of talents and wares.

Free entertainment is scheduled both days, with a special 6 p.m. Saturday evening concert featuring an encore performance of the popular Brian Brenner, formerly of the 'Del Satins' and his 'Blast from the Past' show. A full entertainment schedule will be published in the next two weeks.

Another festival favorite is the wide variety of food selections. Eighteen food booths will offer specialty food items and beverages, including traditional beef and pork, Mexican, corn on the cob, and a German 'Bier Garden'.

Additional attractions include the Festival 5-K run starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday. Last year, over 250 runners participated in the festival run. Immediately following the 5-K run, the Festival parade steps off at 9 a.m. on Union Blvd. This year the parade will again feature a bicycle decorating contest for kids. Contest details and applications forms can be picked up at the National Road McDonald's restaurant. The 2010 Grand Marshall will be Ms. Robin Spiller, long-time Athletics Director at Northmont City Schools.

Sunday features include a Yolks-march, starting at 7:30 a.m. and a custom car show throughout the day. The Cruisin' with E-Rider Show will include a pin stripers 'Panel Jam,' with pin striping demonstrations and an auction.

Look for a detailed festival schedule in next week's edition.
